For many years, Maggie Valley has been a famous family resort town in North Carolina's mountains. It is only 35 miles west of Asheville. It's a laid-back, "old-fashioned" town with vintage motels, fun festivals, car and motorcycle rallies, plenty of craft shops to browse, and a plethora of other activities.
Maggie Valley is in the state of North Carolina. You can find wildflowers, elk, and black bears in the nearby forested Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The Deep Creek Trail, which passes waterfalls, is one of the paths. There are slopes and trails at Cataloochee Ski Area. Vintage motorcycles and rare cars are at the Wheels Through Time Museum. Along the Haywood County Quilt Trails, blocks painted with vibrant quilt patterns adorn barns and buildings.
Maggie Mae Setzer inspired the town's name. Maggie's father, John "Jack" Sidney Setzer, established the area's first post office.
